In Greece, we use to bake for the Christmas a special traditional sweet, which is called kourampies (in the singular) or kourampiedes (in the plural).
Let’s try to bake them together this year!
Ingredients :
- 300 grammars concentrated butter
- 120 grammars almonds
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- 1 pinch vanilla powder
- 110 grammars powdered sugar+extra for dusting
- 25 ml black rumor cognac
- 600 grammars flour for all uses
Spread the almonds on a baking sheet and bake at 160 ° C (in a preheated oven) for eight or ten minutes, so they can take a beautiful gold-brown color. Then we leave them to be cool enough, and then we pound them in the mortar into chunks or we break by pressing them with a rolling pin between two baking sheets.
Beat in mixer with feather the butter with the powdered sugar on high speed for about 20 minutes. (The more you hit, the better the dough). Then gradually add the flour, baking powder and vanilla and continue beating at lower speed for 10 min. Finally, add the almonds and rum.
Shape round buns in diameter 3 cm. And push with your finger lightly on the top. We put on a cookie sheet, on a baking sheet, and bake in a preheated oven at 170 ° C for 20-30 minutes, depending on their size.
Remove from the oven, leave them to cool thoroughly and pour into a pan full of powdered sugar. We rotate them in the sugar well and transfer them to a serving dish, where they are served as a pyramid, sprinkling each series we put on extra sugar.
