Τι είναι το γούρι;
Έχετε βγει για καφέ ή για ποτό με Έλληνες; Σας έχει τύχει ποτέ, αν χυθεί καφές ή κρασί, να τους ακούσετε να λένε «Γούρι, γούρι!» ; Τι σημαίνει αυτή η λέξη και πότε τη λέμε;
Το γούρι είναι μια λέξη με ρίζες τουρκικές: ugur στα τούρκικα σημαίνει καλή τύχη. Αυτή είναι και η σημασία του στα ελληνικά σήμερα. Λέμε πως «μας φέρνουν γούρι» τα πράγματα ή τα γεγονότα που πιστεύουμε πως θα μας φέρουν καλή τύχη, όπως για παράδειγμα το να χυθεί ο καφές ή το κρασί μας,
Στην αρχή κάθε καινούργιας χρονιάς ανταλλάσσουμε μικρά δωράκια που θα φέρουν τύχη στους φίλους μας. Αυτά τα μικρά δωράκια επίσης τα λέμε γούρια. Συνήθως έχουν ρόδια, μάτια ή πέταλα, σύμβολα που θεωρείται πως χαρίζουν καλή τύχη.
What is a “gouri”?
Have you ever gone for a a coffee or drink with Greek people? Has it happened to you, if the coffee or the wine gets poured, to hear them say “Gouri, gouri!”? What does this mean and when do we say it?
The word “gouri” has turkish origins: “ogur” in turkish means good luck. That is its meaning in greek today. For the things or facts that we think they will bring us good luck, we say that they bring us “gouri”, as for example to pour our coffee or wine.
In the beginning of every new year we give some small presents to our friends. These things are supposed to bring good luck and they are also called gouri. Often they represent grenades, eyes or horseshoes, symbols that are believed to bring good luck.
