The course is organized by Alexandria Institute (Athens) with the collaboration of the public school of Methoni. The course in Methoni was originally projected and organized from 2002 to 2012 by Meduproject s.r.L. and it’s director prof. Andrea Nanetti with the collaboration of Arethas Institute (Athens) for Mediterranean Cultural Heritage Projects and the Centre for History and Palaeography of the Cultural Foundation of the National Bank of Greece under the auspices of the Faculty of Preservation of Cultural Heritage of Bologna (Ravenna) and the Faculty of Arts, University of Rome “Tor Vergata”.
For participants of Bildungsurlaub the optional cultural and historical lessons offered in the afternoon are obligatory to come to the required 30 weekly lessons. The additional cost for the extra lessons in order to meet the 30 hours weekly is 290 euros

Alexandria Institute organizes a Modern Greek language and culture course for all levels in Methoni one of the most picturesque and historical sites of Peloponnese. Students will have the opportunity to have an authentic experience of the customs and the traditions related to the Greek Easter.
Our school offers intensive courses at basic, intermediate and advanced levels. Classes aim to help students develop all language skills, while priority is given to speaking as well as verbal comprehension in a multitude of communicative scenarios.
You are in good hands! Alexandria Institute’s Greek teachers are qualified, specialized and experienced in teaching Greek as a foreign language. Most of all are passionate about Greek language and culture. This ensures that you will progress fast and that you will have a lot of fun.
Moreover, the course is combined with lectures, outdoor activities and various tours helping students become more familiar with contemporary Greek culture.
This Easter join our classes with students from all around the world, speak Greek, make friends and explore Methoni, a unique and historic place. Discover the fascinating small town of Methoni with the uncontaminated beaches, the impressive Venetian Castle and other important monuments, the gastronomy, nature, music, and culture of one of the most beautiful places in Greece.
Enjoy a cultural vacation of great value in this unique site treating yourself something special: learning and practicing Greek. From Methoni it will be possible to take one day trips to the island of Sapientza, Nestor’s Palace, the Mycenaean tombs of Pylos, the Ancient Messene and other fantastic destinations.
In case attendance is greater than expected, further excursions and tour guides may be added. The original itinerary may have to be modified, in response to unexpected weather conditions or in function of local events. A minimum attendance of three students is required for our cultural courses to take place.

Melina Apartments is located by the sea, only 500 meters from the famous medieval Venetian castle of Methoni and 5 min walking distance from the public school
Ilias Apartments is surrounded by gardens just 100 metres from the beach in the scenic town of Methoni.

By plane and bus
Both Athens and Kalamata possible. From Kalamata you can take the bus to Methoni. The cheap option: Express bus No. E 93 from the Athens airport to the bus station on Kifissou-Str. Travel time depending on traffic 30 to 60 minutes. Of course you can also take a taxi. If the driver does not understand English, which is rare, then ask “Stathmos Leoforíon, Kiffissou”. Luggage will be charged in addition to the fare indicated on the meter. At the bus station, pick up tickets to Messinia. The seats are numbered. Direct buses to Methoni from Athens are twice a day. Usually at 9am and at 3pm. Driving time is about 5 hours to a maximum of 6 hours. Last bus from Athens at 3 pm.
We can also arrange for you a transfer by taxi with other students at an extra cost.
