Alexandria Institute – Greek language and culture courses in Greece and online – organizes an online lecture about philosophy in Greece & China.

Philosophy is a highly misunderstood concept. As an academic module and as an everyday practice it is supposed to promote knowledge, whereas it actually submerges us to the mysteries of our subconscious. The 6^th century has given a spiritual blossom with never-before-heard ideas about the cosmos, the soul, knowledge and man. Tonight we shall take a journey to the mysteries of two great civilisations of the past in order to understand how they differ and how many things they shared. Moreover, we shall focus on two philosophers of the ancient era; Heraclitus, the obscured philosopher from Greece facing the mysterious Lao-Zi from China.

Introduction of the speaker: Of Cypriot Greek origin, Assistant Professor at the Department of Greek Studies at GDUFS. PhD in philosophy, MA in philosophy and religion. Thesis title: Heraclitus and Lao-Zi: The Philosophy of Change and Harmony. Member of the Greek Philosophical Association, Member of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki’s research Institute Academy of Institutions and Civilizations and the ELLINEPA, Lampros has been invited to attend many international conferences and lectures. He has taught history, philosophy, ancient and modern Greek, Latin, etc. He has published 2 books and several academic articles.

Ο Λάμπρος Παπαγιάννης με καταγωγή από τη Θεσσαλονίκη και την Κύπρο γεννήθηκε και μεγάλωσε στη Θεσσαλονίκη. Σπούδασε Φιλολογία στο Δ.Π.Θ. (Κομοτηνή), Θρησκειολογία στο Λονδίνο και Φιλοσοφία στο Α.Π.Θ., όπου και εξεπόνησε και υποστήριξε τη διδακτορική του διατριβή. Τα επιστημονικά θέματα με τα οποία ασχολείται αφορούν (κυρίως, αλλά όχι μόνον) την αρχαία φιλοσοφία και ιδιαίτερα τη συγκριτική φιλοσοφία μεταξύ των τριών αρχαίων χωρών (Ελλάδα, Κίνα, Ινδία). Έχει εκδώσει άρθρα σε επιστημονικά και μη περιοδικά και έχει λάβει μέρος σε διεθνή και τοπικά συνέδρια πάνω σε ζητήματα οντολογίας και μεταφυσικής, γνωσιολογίας, πολιτικής φιλοσοφίας, φιλοσοφίας της γλώσσας και φιλοσοφίας του κινηματογράφου, καθώς επίσης και σχετικά με τη λογοτεχνία. Είναι μέλος της Ε.Φ.Ε., και της ΕΛ.ΙΝ.Ε.Π.Α. Έχει δώσει διαλέξεις ως προσκεκλημένος εισηγητής στο τμήμα Παιδαγωγικής του Α.Π.Θ. και του Παιδαγωγικού Ινστιτούτου του Πεκίνου, καθώς και στο Τμήμα Θεολογίας του Α.Π.Θ. Από το 2016 διδάσκει, ως Επίκουρος Καθηγητής, Νέα Ελληνικά και Ελληνικό Πολιτισμό στο Πανεπιστήμιο Ξένων Γλωσσών της Καντώνας (GDUFS) στη νότια Κίνα.
